Scotland is an important market for Norwegian companies operating within the Aquaculture sector as it is one of the largest salmon producing countries in the world and shares strong links with Norway within the industry.

Norway and Scotland are close in proximity and shares many of the same challenges and opportunities. Future growth for the Aquaculture industry in both Scotland and Norway is dependent on new sustainable solutions. In both countries growth in total production has been decreasing and new solutions are needed for the industry to progress.

Scotland has a growth strategy for Aquaculture and has set ambitious targets for increase of production by 2030, as well as a new strategy called “Vision for Sustainable Aquaculture” highlighting actions to increase the productivity of Scotland’s aquaculture sector and help reduce its impact on the environment. The industry needs to find new innovative sustainable solutions to enable growth and deliver on these strategies.

With these existing challenges, together with the expertise of Norwegian companies, we believe there are great opportunities for Norwegian companies in the Scottish market.
